Should Media Be Held Accountable for Spreading Harmful Messages?

The all-too-real consequences of fictional stories — TRIGGER WARNING // discussion of discrimination, mental illness, and su*cide. … Have you ever felt the urge to commit a crime while watching Breaking Bad, or loved disobeying traffic laws in Grand Theft Auto 5 so much you felt like trying it in the real world? Though it may be…

Does Technology Make Us More Alone?

A common belief is that recent advances in technology resulting in overuse of social media and video games have isolated this generation — but I believe it has had the opposite effect. In a three-year U.S. study by the MacArthur Foundation ending in 2008, when the Internet was still on…

Regrets

Regrets. Funny how the smallest things the shortest moments the briefest word the quietest feeling gone unheard can glow, shimmer or rot or grow and chip away at you from the inside with time.

Watercolour Daydream

Take me into the painting Where I’ll play in the watercolour snow Tucked inside a tranquil winter valley Where nothing else matters. I’ll watch the imaginary cold From inside my cabin in the corner Of the painting, all alone Where nothing else exists. The sun shines off the surface Of the watercolour lake, blinding in its beauty A wonderful daydream surrounded by evergreens Hung on a barren wall.

Fog

I don’t like the fog Or is it smoke? Rising into the clouds Clouding my vision Filling my throat Making me choke. The fog follows me Or is it everywhere? And did I cause it? Whether it stays forever Or comes and goes I’ll just keep telling myself that Over time, I’ll learn How to live with the fog. — — — — — — — — I’m back! Kind of! After publishing my first poetry collection, ‘The Night Summer Ended’ (which includes several of the poems featured here on Medium), I’m writing more poetry than ever in hopes of publishing another, longer collection sometime next year.

Happiness

If Happiness is a song Then sing it for me Sing it for the world And there will be no war No hatred No crying children No cold No storm No mosquitoes. If Happiness is not a song or a job or a palace or good grades or popularity Then it is a gift And has already been given Because Happiness is found In the little things.

12 Steps to Suspense

Kawiria Creed I don’t know about you, but Thriller novels are all that seem to be on my bookshelf lately. I can never put them down once I’ve picked them up. Sometimes I stop to analyze them, too — and ask myself why I’m reading “one more chapter” instead of…

Of Palm Trees and Pistols

“Stress,” the doctor had announced. “Stress and tension. Why, your mind is wound as tight as a mainspring. You’ve been sitting over your desk worrying about one problem after another, and it’s time to relax. You, my friend, need a vacation. And I mean a real vacation.” Mr. Waterby settled…

Sleep

Sleep is a beautiful thing that I wish I could have more of. Sleep we’re not friends or enemies It’s more like we’re in love. Sleep, I took you for granted When I was strong and young and dumb Sleep is my desired career though unnecessary to some.

Millionaire

If I had a million dollars To spend just as I pleased, I`d book a room on a luxury cruise and travel through the seas. I`d lose some money here and there In Puerto Rico or Japan, But it`d be worth those quiet moments Of lying in the sand. If I had a LOT of money And only me to take the blame I`d build a wooden bookshelf That puts Donald`s wall to shame. That million bucks may never come So I dream and dream and dream
